Google has taken a big enough bite out of the market for too long, if you ask the other search engines.
Speaking of asking, Ask.com relaunches its search engine to take a portion of Google’s traffic.
As expected, most people limit their search options to the top three engines: Google, Yahoo!, and Bing. Ask.com however recently announced that it will be offering question-and-answer services once again in a bid to catch attention by those same search engines.
With the Google Mayday update, this type of fresh content could be just what the doctor ordered to rejuvenate Ask.com’s traction.
The irony of ask.com using the Google search engine to gain traffic against Google is undeniable.
Many in the industry are asking though if it is too little, too late, considering that Bing and Yahoo are also fighting for marketshare by making their own changes.
Consider that Yahoo is now displaying Microsoft Bing organic and paid search listings. This move could account for up to 25 percent of its search traffic in the U.S. as part of a 10-year pact to take market share from the Google search engine juggernaut.
Under the agreement, Microsoft agreed to work with Yahoo and pay 88 percent of traffic acquisitions costs for the first five years under a 10-year deal. For Yahoo’s end, they will provide the global sales force for both companies’ search ads.
Some figures to consider: Google still holds a 66 percent search share and combined, Bing and Yahoo together would take approximately a 30 percent share. This Bing-Yahoo partnership accounts for approximately 25 percent of Yahoo’s search traffic with the idea to partner against Google in the search market.
Both Bing and Yahoo! laid out the plan for integration back in May of this year, and the organic search listings will be powered by Microsoft in August or September, and the paid searches will following in October.
Yahoo and Bing have been working the PR end to ease the transition to Microsoft’s adCenter, and they have been diligently working with customers to prepare for the algorithm change. It seems that has been a common theme in 2010. One technique is to align your search crawler polices for the msnbot/Bingbot and Yahoo’s bots. Bing’s has instructions on its new webmaster tools and policies, it is worthwhile to do some checking to avoid any problems like the ones created by the Google Mayday update.
The Mayday update was sufficient evidence that Google has been doing its best to stay ahead of the competitor’s changes.
Consider also, that soon after Bing introduced its popular graphic background images, in June, Google introduced the option of a colorful background too. These changes and the benefits for the end user, are obvious; Bing has flight search and prediction tools that reveal price fluctuations for certain routes, and advises customers whether to buy or wait.
In addition, Bing Health uses data from online sources like the ...

Manual search engine submission Vs Automated search engine Submission
Google has put their search focus into real time results and while this would seem to be advantageous in most situations, it appears that in the case of Twitter and Search Engine Optimization for example, Bing has the advantage.
Bing handles real-time search results separately from normal search results and segregated these results into their own search page. Real-time search results seem to be the popular method, and by segregating results, it appears that Bing may have known something the rest of the Search Engine Optimization world did not.
In Bing, real-time search results are not displayed in the regular listings but if you are looking for information of this kind you can find it. So as a result, Twitter results are sectioned off in Bing.
As Twitter increasingly plays a more important role in search engine optimization, Google and Bing will increase its’ incorporation into search results.
Bing’s handling of these results currently seem to be the most beneficial from a search engine optimization standpoint.
Does this mean that Google is ineffective for search engine optimization uses? Absolutely not.
Here are some things to consider when setting up your Google presence.
Google local listing has become of increased importance in search engine optimization; for a small business trying to attract local customers, Google utilizes a local map with local results prior to the organic listings loading.
Businesses as a whole, seem to be overlooking ways to improve these listings from a search engine optimization standpoint.
Here is how to get started:
First and most obviously, fill out the necessary start up data requested by Google.
Google allows 200 words to describe your business. Please use as much or all of these words and include keywords and high detail.
Use your main keyword in the title. Aside from the obvious, it will make the rest of the text that I will illustrate below, flow and appear to fit better.
Resist the urge to load the description with nothing but keywords and unengaging text; This is your chance to benefit from organic traffic and use some marketing to your advantage; belive it or not, this is the best search engine optimization that you can do here.
Create a listing for each physical location, and use the local phone number whenever possible. This keeps everything organic, useful and multiplies your online presence to match your physical one.
Google provides for 5 category listings for your business. Make sure to use all five to your advantage.
Perhaps use one for each facet of your business? This will allow you a much larger search engine optimization footprint and hopefully reach more customers.
Create one insightful article a day with well-written content pertaining to your business.
Appropriate back-link and keyword usage will drive traffic, customers, and industry attention to your site.
This is especially effective search engine optimization technique for new business tr ...
Do you want to secure a top ranking in search engine result pages(SERP)?
I think every one is going to answer - Yes. And a very common belief is that add lot of most searched keywords in the meta tags of your web pages and see your site skyrocketing. But it feels highly frustrating when this magic proves of no avail. Remember, meta tags alone don't do a magic in getting better placed in the search pages. These meta tags sure help you to describe your web pages to a search engine and gain a better place in its results. But at the same time they help search engine too to prevent indexing of improper web pages. Which may have good weight keywords in their meta tags but having no relationship with the contents of the page.
Meta tags are the blocks which contain information about the contents of your web page and they exist into the head area of your web page. They are basically meant to communicate with the search engine. Most of the Meta tags are visible to the search engine only and not the visitor on your web page. But, Title tag is one which is visible to the search engine and the visitor as well. Most importantly, it attracts the search engine and the visitor very aggressively. Most search engines consider this tag as the primary information about the site and also an human visitor sees this information as the first thing on top left corner of the browser. Moreover, when one bookmarks the site, the text in this tag appears in the bookmarks list.
In this article, I have tried to focus mainly on 'Title Meta Tag' that how a good Title Meta Tag can render a great help in optimization of a website.
What is the significance of Meta Title Tag
Amongst the three major Meta tags (Meta Title Tag, Meta Keywords Tag, Meta Description Tag) the Title Tag is one which is given the most weight by search engines' algorithms. In fact, this tag should be written so that it should give the idea about your site instantly. A perfect written Title tag can generate quick and appreciable traffic to your site. The text written in this tag appears as clickable text in the search engine result page (SERP) and if it is really meaningful and conveys most about the web page, more clickthroughs will be the result.
This small example explains the function of Meta Title tag better. Suppose I need to visit San Francisco and need a road map of the city and go to a book store to find the same. There are lot of books on tourism and travel with different titles but my attention will go to a title which says something like "Latest Road Map of San Francisco" rather than a title "All about San Francisco". May be the second book contains better information about the subject I am looking for. But the title of first one speaks exactly about what I need. This how a better title gains priority over the other because of the contents of its title. This is exactly what happens with search engine. It picks the most matching title with the query and places in its result page as clicka ...
Well its not even a month to the launch of the much talked about Google buzz and there is a search engine created for searching Google buzz updates! Its called Buzzzy and what’s even more surprising is that its not by Google but by someone else .
This is what had happened to twitter too which saw summize.com launch twitter search engine but later twitter acquired summize to launch search.twitter.com.
I tested out Buzzzy and though it does a good job of searching Buzz updates it doesn’t manage to search all of them. I tried a few keywords that I had used but they never came up in the results. Not sure how and what criteria the search results are limited by but its still and interesting tool.
A search tool is key for brands and Im sure brands would use this one to figure out their buzz metrics on google buzz. For all you know google would either launch its own version of buzz search or by the way its acquiring companies it may just acquire buzzzy.com.

I’m here again to serve you with another startup. Well this time is not exactly the startup but review about a revamped site. I’m talking about oldest city guide – TimesCity.com (local city guide, rather I would rather say local food guide). Recently, Timescity.com has been revamped, let’s have a view:
Design:
• Cool, funky three column design layout (although three column design is outdated)
• Cool colour combination – red, black and grey
• Used bold and large fonts
Captions:
I like the captions used by timescity for the sections, few of them which i like are:
• Who’s up for sweet dish
• Pocket Friendly
• For the Fast and Foodious
• Sunday Brunches
• Party with Flair
Listings:
• Covered only few cities
• In cities, few localities are covered (should cover whole city)
• Have featured chaat/roadside eatieries also
Features:
• Click to call
• Listing on Map
• Request results on Mobile. Just send a SMS titled ASK followed by locality and cuisine to 58888 and TimesCity.com will serve you the list of restro and bars.
What put this off:
• Feature only food joints
• Events, movies, lifestyle a lot more should also be featured
• Listings of only 6 cities with major locality
Competitor Review
AskLaila.com
• Have listings of 12 cities
• Feature Listings, Movies, Events, Articles and best deals
Burrp.com
• Have listings of 10 cities
• Featuring Food, Beauty & Spa, Shopping, Events, Movies a lot more…
• Burrp is also on Mobile
TheCityGuide.in
• Have listings of 12 cities
• Featuring Food, Beauty & Spa, Art & Entertainment, Hotels, Shopping a lot more…
YReach.com
• Have listings of 7 cities
• Featuring Food, Travel, Music and Movies
In an all, web is being flooded with local search engines. All are serving similar features and listings to user.
Our Review:
Timescity needs to define the vision of portal – will they diversify to other business streams like Movies, Events etc…or stick to food category and keep on adding new things related to food industry then this portal will be able to attract more visitor else lost his way.

Want more search engine traffic?...you need better search engine rankings, it's that simple. Although the process of getting your sites to rank higher in the search engines may not be so easy. Anyone who's been advertising online for any length of time knows how difficult it can be to get your web sites to move up through the ranks of any search engine, and with difficulty comes more and more stress about traffic.
I'm going to give you some useful tips that will show you how to improve your search engine rankings so that you'll get more search engine traffic. believe it or not it's not hard at all, once you develop a step by step system of things you must do on a daily basis you'll find you can get any site you create to rank in the organic side of the search engines for just about any keyword of your choice. Some keywords will naturally take more work to get a good ranking for because of the competition for that keyword.
The first tip to improve your search engine rankings is to learn basic Seo (search engine optimization). There is a ton of information about web site seo and most of it is free, just type seo tutorial into any Google search bar or you tube search bar if you learn better by video and presto, all the Seo tutorials you need. You want to make sure your web sites are pre planned with the Seo structure already in place, and your web site optimized for it's keywords prior to it going live, that way it will take less time to get a good ranking and thus better search engine traffic.
Tip 2...Bookmark your sites as they go live to give them the kick start they need and get the search engine spiders actively coming to your pages. Bookmarking and social networking will do wonders to improve your search engine rankings and ultimately building your search engine traffic. Social bookmarking for traffic generation is a very powerful tool when used properly, but it must be used responsibly or you run the possibility of getting your bookmarking accounts shut down and your profile banned. There is excellent information on the web about "web 2.0 marketing" that will help you to get the most out of social sites and there communities.
Tip 3...is a biggie when it comes to learning how to improve your search engine rankings and it's all summed up in one word..."backlinks". How many higher ranking sites or pages that are closely related to yours can you get to link back to you?, it is one of the biggest factors in getting your sites to move up in the search engines that will have an immediate effect on your rankings and ultimately traffic. There is also a huge amount of information about how to obtain these backlinks, some of it's free but you can also find some real gems in mini backlink reports that won't cost an arm and a leg.
Finally...if you put these few little tips into a workable program, there is no keyword that you couldn't eventually dominate in the search engines, you'll find yourself bringing in obscene amounts of traffi ...
Chinadaily.com.cn has reported that Baidu, China’s leading search engine has larger market share in the global search niche than Yahoo and MSN. This effectively makes it the second largest search engine in the world behind Google. The report mentions Comscore data to stake claim of the position.
According to the report , Comscore’s data show that Google dominates the global search activities, holding 68.9 percent of the world’s search engine market. Market shares of Yahoo! and Microsoft come to 6.5 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively. Baidu now has a share to the tune of 6.9% of global searches according to the latest Comscore data.
Though we couldn’t add Yahoo search because of the system’s inherent limitations, the Alexa analysis also showed a similar number for Baidu and Bing. It stood at around 6.5% while Bing had around 2.5% of global search traffic. It was also interesting to note that Baidu clearly dominates the Chinese geography and performs even better than what Google does Globally. According to Comscore it has more 75% of the marketshare in China and the Alexa results show that the site is amongst the top players in other South East Asian countries and even in USA it is the top 400 websites.
What worked or still works in Baidu’s favour is the humungous chinese population and the fact that Chinese language takes predomincance over others languages like English unlike in India. This means it attracts mandarin speaking populace from all over the world thus giving it a more global appeal. However, what drives its adoption even more in China where Google is actually slipping down is something I don’t have an answer to. It can very well be that they provide better more intuitve and culture friendly results. Natural language is a very big influence on how data is sought and perhaps that’s where the difference really lies.
Indian Search Players
Does this mean there is more scope for Indian search players, the ones’ who focus on local content and regional languages?
I have my doubts for two reasons:
English is still the predominant workplace language , therefore information sought will also be predominantly in English. On the other hand the Global Indian Diaspora for all their culture love will probably never search in their native tongue which many probably won’t know how.
That leaves scope only for those who access regional language content. Here again, the biggest problem India faces is that there is no one strong national language. Hindi is obviously the national language and for all practical purpose the alternative for English. However, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that with numerous regional languages people are more likely to search for info in the local language and not the national one. And in that case the volumes that they will generate probably won’t be enough to bring any significant o ...

How search engine marketing tools can work for you: or, searching is really all about finding Information Outlook Summary This is the second of three articles. Part 1 appeared in the August issue of Information Outlook. Search engine optimization and marketing covers a wide range of activities, many of which are similar to what a reference librarian, systems librarian, or market researcher does. Although the focus is the World Wide Web, many of the tools that are used have broader applications for special librarians. Internal corporate processes. Web analytics tools measure and analyze corporate sales, customer preferences and problems, viable products and channels, and other issues that may provide answers for questions received by special librarians. Competitive intelligence/market research. Keyword research, Web site saturation and popularity tools can provide information on a company's competitors: how they are marketing on the Internet, what they are spending on online marketing campaigns, how they are pricing their products. Legal issues. Who Is tools can provide valuable information relating to copyright and trademark issues. Link Popularity tools can show who is deep-linking to your site. Log files, in conjunction with Who Is tools, can tell you who may be committing click fraud on your paid placement campaigns or spamming your e-mail servers. Back end knowledge of how Web sites work. These tools can show you what may be keeping search engines from indexing your site and can highlight customer service issues. Continue article Advertisement SECOND OF THREE ARTICLES Web site saturation and popularity tools show how much presence a Web site has on search engines through the number of pages of the site that are indexed on each search engine (saturation) and how many times the site is linked to by other sites (popularity). If your company wants to generate leads from Web site traffic, you need to understand your organization's Web presence, particularly in relation to that of your competitors. Generally, the more Web presence you have, the easier it is for people to find your site; that is, if those pages contain the keywords people are looking for and if they rank high enough in search engine rankings for people to see them. Most search engines include some form of link popularity in their ranking algorithms. Pay attention to this so you can learn the number of sites that are linking to yours, which is very important. Knowing where your site stands in these two areas can give you a good idea of what you need to do to improve your Web presence. Many tools measure various aspects of saturation and link popularity. My favorites are Link Popularity +, Top 10 Google Analysis, and Marketleap's Link Popularity and Search Engine Saturation. Link Popularity + (http://www.uptimebot.com) shows much more than its name implies. It measures the number of back-links (incoming external links to your site); linked domains (all pages that link t ...
