Well its not even a month to the launch of the much talked about Google buzz and there is a search engine created for searching Google buzz updates! Its called Buzzzy and what’s even more surprising is that its not by Google but by someone else .
This is what had happened to twitter too which saw summize.com launch twitter search engine but later twitter acquired summize to launch search.twitter.com.
I tested out Buzzzy and though it does a good job of searching Buzz updates it doesn’t manage to search all of them. I tried a few keywords that I had used but they never came up in the results. Not sure how and what criteria the search results are limited by but its still and interesting tool.
A search tool is key for brands and Im sure brands would use this one to figure out their buzz metrics on google buzz. For all you know google would either launch its own version of buzz search or by the way its acquiring companies it may just acquire buzzzy.com.

Eric Enge: What are the most important things for people to be concerned about when they want to rank well in local search?
Chris Silver Smith: In my opinion, local search optimization is based upon a foundation of regular search engine optimization, but there are a number of additional factors beyond what we see in regular SEO, so there is a little bit more complexity here. Although some of the same classic SEO ranking factors are some of the things that feed into local search rankings as well, including well-formed titles and good H1 tags on pages.
There is also another way to rank well within local search for non-businesses websites. Even if a business doesn't have a website, it can rank within local search because it may have listings within business directories whose listings get indexed and ranked by various local search engines. (For more on this, see Chris's article on how Google Maps may've switched from ranking sites to ranking businesses , independent of website.)
Eric Enge: That's one of the big problems in local search. There is a very little control over the way that data is maintained and propagated in both on and offline directory listings. It seems almost like a mass of random Brownian activity at times.
Chris Silver Smith: That's a really good description of it. All these different little pieces of ...

As you set up your business Web site and research how to attract new customers, you will no doubt come across the phrase "search engine optimization." But what, exactly, does it mean?
Chinadaily.com.cn has reported that Baidu, China’s leading search engine has larger market share in the global search niche than Yahoo and MSN. This effectively makes it the second largest search engine in the world behind Google. The report mentions Comscore data to stake claim of the position.
According to the report , Comscore’s data show that Google dominates the global search activities, holding 68.9 percent of the world’s search engine market. Market shares of Yahoo! and Microsoft come to 6.5 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively. Baidu now has a share to the tune of 6.9% of global searches according to the latest Comscore data.
Though we couldn’t add Yahoo search because of the system’s inherent limitations, the Alexa analysis also showed a similar number for Baidu and Bing. It stood at around 6.5% while Bing had around 2.5% of global search traffic. It was also interesting to note that Baidu clearly dominates the Chinese geography and performs even better than what Google does Globally. According to Comscore it has more 75% of the marketshare in China and the Alexa results show that the site is amongst the top players in other South East Asian countries and even in USA it is the top 400 websites.
What worked or still works in Baidu’s favour is the humungous chinese population and the fact that Chinese language takes predomincance over others languages like English unlike in India. This means it attracts mandarin speaking populace from all over the world thus giving it a more global appeal. However, what drives its adoption even more in China where Google is actually slipping down is something I don’t have an answer to. It can very well be that they provide better more intuitve and culture friendly results. Natural language is a very big influence on how data is sought and perhaps that’s where the difference really lies.
Indian Search Players
Does this mean there is more scope for Indian search players, the ones’ who focus on local content and regional languages?
I have my doubts for two reasons:
English is still the predominant workplace language , therefore information sought will also be predominantly in English. On the other hand the Global Indian Diaspora for all their culture love will probably never search in their native tongue which many probably won’t know how.
That leaves scope only for those who access regional language content. Here again, the biggest problem India faces is that there is no one strong national language. Hindi is obviously the national language and for all practical purpose the alternative for English. However, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that with numerous regional languages people are more likely to search for info in the local language and not the national one. And in that case the volumes that they will generate probably won’t be enough to bring any significant o ...
As it is known to all that the search engine optimization is the most essential thing for any website. It is the key through which a website can increase web traffic to their site. But the task of search engine optimization is not an easy one. For that reason most of the websites prefer to assign the job of search engine optimization to some search engine optimization company. There are several companies that provide search engine optimization services if you have a look in the internet. But to choose the perfect Search Engine Optimization Company to do the search engine optimization for you is very much essential. Of course the most favored choices are the experienced search engine optimization companies but that does not mean that the newer companies should not be given any chance.
The fact is that all of the websites decide not to hire the newer companies then these companies can never grow up. This is not only a loss for those companies but also you can never know the efficiency of those companies. search engine optimization services search engine optimization company website optimization increase website traffic increase web site traffic ...

In October last year Google’s Marissa Mayer announced that Social Search graduated from Google Labs. Until last week, however, it was an opt in feature. But now anyone who searches on www.google.com (US) will be able to see Social Search results.
For the uninformed, Social Search means that any person searching the web will also be able to see results from friends/connections on their network. Amidst privacy concerns, Google was quick to point out that it only displays information that is already publicly available.
If you were to search for ‘India’ you would see a new section in your search results from your social circle.
There are also links to see your Social Circle(the contacts whose social data will appear in your results) and Social Content(the social data that you are sharing with others).
In order to see Social Results, apart from searching on the Google US page, it also necessary that you are signed into your Google Account. If you still don’t any Social Results it is probably because you have no Social Data available to you from your Contacts.
Contacts can include people on your GTalk chat list, Friends family and coworkers on Google Contacts, contacts from sites like Twitter and Friendfeed – provided these have been added to your Google Profile. To see your Social Contacts go here .
Content you see may typically include Websites and Blogs linked via your friends, Status updates, Images from your social circle, subscriptions from your Google Reader.
For a better understanding of Social Search check video below:
Richness of the content that Social Search throws up depends entirely on what your network is like. Given the codependent nature of people, a push in the right direction from Google will ensure this feature will go a long way in improving the search experience they provide.

Eric Enge: Tell me what's been going on with custom search engines?
Rajat Mukherjee: Over the last couple of years many things have happened. It's been very exciting to be part of a team that's spearheading a new hosted search paradigm. And it's been a lot of fun developing the product features with the help of an outstanding development team and watching the product grow.
Eric Enge: Can you give us a top-to-bottom overview of the major initiatives you have and the goals you are trying to accomplish?
Rajat Mukherjee: When we spoke two years ago, we had over 100,000 registered search engines. Today, we have more than one million registered custom search engines. Since I joined the project in January 2007, we have had about one hundred times growth in traffic.

Remember when Bing launched its recipe results? Now Google has launched a similar feature with recipe rich snippets. "For example, if you were searching for an easy to make thai mango salad, you can now see user ratings, preparation time, and a picture of the dish directly in search result snippets," explains Google. It may not be incredibly far-fetched to suggest that maybe Bing's offering nudged such a feature into development, whether or not Google would admit this.
This story isn't about recipes though. It's about the major search engines' quest for gaining or keeping you as a user. It feels like Bing has been around quite a while now, but in reality, it hasn't even been out for a year. Right out of the box, Bing seemed to make Google want to improve . Google is even in the process of testing redesigned search results pages that borrow some design characteristics from Bing.
Where are You Getting the More Relevant Results? Let us know .
Both Google and Bing still have their relevancy issues. We recently looked at an example of a query for "matt cutts" on Google (though we compared them to Yahoo rather than Bing, as Yahoo mentioned the same query in a blog post). Frankly, Google's results left a bit to be desired. It wasn't that that they were bad exactly, but personalized results pushed the more relevant results further down the page , and Matt's Facebook profile was MIA, despite Facebook being one of the most popular sites on the web, a good result for a search on a person's name (It was in the first few on Yahoo's results).
Microsoft may like consumers to think that Bing gives all the right answers. Those commercials would certainly seem to suggest they have a leg up over the competition in that regard, but they've got their own relevance issues. For example, for an article I was writing recently, I was looking for that site Bing has that showed all of the latest features they've released. I couldn't remember the name of it, so I searched (on Bing) for "latest bing features". Given Bing's philosophy of wanting to provide answers, I would expect to easily find what I was looking for through such a query, but instead the first organic result is an article called "The Latest News from Bing" from November of 2009.
Search Diversifying
In the latest search market reports , Google has lost a little bit of market share. Bing is gaining (and has the potential to gain a lot more for reasons discussed here ). Another thing Bing has going for it, or Google has working against it rather, is that search itself is becoming much more diversified as a result of mobile , social media , and geo-location . People are simply using more ways to find the information they're looking for. It's not that they're not using Google anymore. It's that they're maybe using it less for certain types of queries. For example, where someone ma ...
An online presence is becoming increasingly important as more and more people not only research products and services on the web, but also expect to be able to purchase them online as well. It goes without saying though that no matter how good your website is, without a proper strategy for getting targeted traffic to your site, you are not going to get a good return on your online investment.
Even companies that are aware of ways to get consistent traffic to their websites by using Search Engine Optimization strategies often fall into a number of traps and miss out on vital strategies that can help optimize their sites.
The three biggest search engine optimization mistakes that we repeatedly see people making are:
1. Not having enough content
Too many sites have pages on them that do not have enough content on the page. This is often the case on shopping type sites which may appear rich in terms of overall content (plenty of pictures and even videos) but inadequate in terms of text.
Worse, these pages can often be seen as duplicate or low quality pages by the search engines because the only text changes on the page are the product title, heading tags, and the price.
It is important to ensure that you have sufficient content on each page on your site and that the content differs significantly from that on other pages on the site.
2. Not using Internal and external Anchor Text properly
Too many sites that we encounter still use things like "more" or "click here" as the anchor text for many links, both on their own site and on external sites linking back. Even web designers, who should know better, often place a link on client sites saying website by John Doe Inc with 'John Doe Inc' as the anchor text. They would be far better changing the anchor text to a more suitable search term than their company name.
By putting some more thought into anchor text you can help the search engines to understand what the page being linked to is about.
3. Overuse of crawler unfriendly site elements
A large number of websites still sacrifice search engine optimization for a catchy design. This might be relevant if you are in an industry where you need to showcase your design skills and talents. However, if it is not relevant to your business then you can significantly reduce your sites SEO effectiveness by developing sites that have a homepage with just a flash movie or something similar.
While it is true that search engines will reward some use of different elements in your website, if these elements aren't incorporated with proper text, you're not going to win any points with the search engines. You also need to bear in mind that search engine crawlers rely on links on your page to navigate around your site. By using text and incorporating a site map you can go a long way to improving the SEO of your site.
So having read this list, have you noticed that you might be making some of these mistakes? And while these are some of the ...

In the click: want all the right people to notice your business? Then you need to make the most of today's hottest marketing method—search engine optimization Entrepreneur You can't resist the temptation. Fixated on your computer screen, you anxiously type keywords relevant to your business into your favorite search engine. A list of search results appears. You cringe as you spot several competitors, then grumble because your company's Web site is nowhere to be seen. Where is it? That depends. Where is your search engine marketing strategy? Gone are the days when adding keywords in meta tags to your site produced rankings. Search engine marketing has evolved into a complex and competitive program. It's also profitable--according to a March 2003 report by Piper Jaffray senior research analyst Safa Rashtchy, online search is the most cost-effective direct-marketing method. The average cost per lead from search is 29 cents, far less than e-mail (50 cents), the Yellow Pages ($1.18), banner ads ($2.00) and direct mail ($9.94). Gather your Web design and marketing staff; both teams are required. Understanding search engine marketing basics will help your team execute a strategy in-house or outsource it to specialists. The sooner your site is visible for relevant keywords, the sooner future customers will find your company. HOW DO SEARCH ENGINES WORK? Many business owners are unaware that search engines feed their results to each other. For example, if you type a keyword into MSN Search on Microsoft's consumer information and entertainment site (www.msn.com), the Web site listings displayed could be from Inktomi, Microsoft or Overture. Overture provides search results not only to MSN Search, but also to AltaVista and Yahoo! Could a top site on Overture then appear as a top site on a distribution partner's site? Yes. Unfortunately, these distribution relationships change frequently, making it difficult to determine exactly where results come from. The challenging part, however, is figuring out how to land a top position in the search engines. There are two complementary yet completely different types of methods: optimization and advertising. Search engine optimization (SEO) refers to enhancing your Web site design to make it more appealing to crawler-based search engines. An automated robot, also referred to as a spider, is sent out to crawl the Web looking for site pages to add to the search engine's database. A mathematical algorithm then determines the ranking of pages in the database for the keywords consumers use. These rankings are referred to as natural or organic listings. Search engine advertising, on the other hand, enables you to buy listings for your keywords. Positions achieved this way are referred to as paid or sponsored listings. The most popular program in this category is pay-for-placement. These programs typically allow advertisers to open an account for $5 to $50, then bid on keywords for a minimum amount of 5 or 10 cents per ...
Google in a very convenient manner tweeted about getting Facebook Fanpage updates on to its real time search results. The news doesn’t have exceeding implications for both Facebook and Google, or at least not as much as it would be for brands and publishers who run Facebook pages. ( Source:Digitalbeat )
This follows the recent spate of deals by Bing and Google earlier with Twitter , that of Bing’s deal with Facebook much (much) before that, and Yahoo’s recent deal making with Twitter, Facebook and Dailymotion. Of course enough has been said about how important it is for search engines to add real time results, and the past year has been filled with action on this front. No one of course has garnered any significant steps in doing it better than the other yet though.
Google’s own deal is not a big one in terms of reach for it can only access Fan pages on not public updates like Bing can. The deal essentially happened in December but went live now. What makes the news important though like I mentioned above is how publishers will begin to tap into this. Managing Facebook pages and updating its content suddenly becomes part of a company’s SEO. This point is best illustrated by Danny Sullivan in his comprehensive post on how the deal would impact search results, make sure you read it.
The Impact on Search
I recently wrote on the need for search engines to alter itself from being just content discovery tools to product discovery ones. On a tangential note, some of the points I mentioned then is very important in the context of what I feel about today’s news in general. While a predominant portion of the post went into saying how discovery tools have to move from information points to decision points, its foundation was on these tools losing control and the relevance of public (not user) generated content. Let’s hold this thought.
SEO in general with the immense expertise that go into it has manipulated if not corrupted search to an extent. And this is a personal user perspective and not that of a guy from the industry. For instance, when WATBlog had posted last year that you can stream cricket online for a series, it shouldn’t have been the first Google result, the streaming site should have been. The difference between content and product discovery in basic.
I have a feeling that this deal will only give rise to more manipulated content on Facebook fan pages with a clear eye on search results. This is so because pages are controlled by brands or more often agencies of brands and web publishers who’s eyes are always on traffic. Facebook Content Optimized for Google and not necessarily for the users or fans is quite a possibility. Where does that leave both Google and Facebook then? Purely on the above argument I feel both FB and big G are losing out than gaining from the deal from a user satisfaction perspective.
This isn’t the cas ...
